Jeep Adds a Trail Rated Trailhawk to the 2027 Cherokee Lineup

The 2027 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk adds the Trail Rated badge to the Cherokee nameplate, backed by a hybrid powertrain and real 4x4 hardware. For Nova Scotia drivers who split their week between pavement and gravel back roads, that is a short list of things worth knowing.

Here is what is confirmed so far, and what each piece means on the trail.

What Is Confirmed on the 2027 Cherokee Trailhawk

The Trailhawk runs a 1.6 L turbocharged inline-4 paired with a hybrid system. The engine makes 177 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque. Together with the electric side, system output is 210 hp and 230 lb-ft. An electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (eCVT) handles the gearing, and the engine runs on regular 87 octane.

The hybrid battery is a 400-volt, 1.08 kWh unit that recharges through brake regeneration. There is no plug to think about. The Jeep brand’s combined fuel-consumption figure is 7.5 L/100 km.

The 4x4 system is Jeep Active Drive II with Lock Mode. It can run in a fully disconnecting 4x2 mode, then engage 4x4 automatically. Torque splits 50:50 front to rear, and 100:0 is available automatically.

The Trailhawk adds a standard two-speed power transfer unit, which is class-exclusive. Its 2.92 low range gives a 37.5:1 crawl ratio. On steep, loose or rocky ground, that gearing lets you climb without riding the brakes. An electronic locking rear axle adds traction when one wheel loses grip.

Trail Hardware, Angles and Clearance

Five Selec-Terrain modes are standard: Auto, Sport, Snow, Sand/Mud and Rock. Snow and Sand/Mud suit the gravel, ruts and slush that Nova Scotia roads can throw at you through the seasons.

Underneath, steel skid plates protect the front axle, wiring and fuel tank. A separate protection plate guards the hybrid battery. Both are standard.

An off-road suspension adds a 2.5 cm lift and unique spring and damper tuning. That tuning delivers a 45-point Ramp Travel Index improvement over other Cherokee models, the standard measure of axle articulation. Ground clearance is 22.98 cm.

The Trailhawk is also the only SUV in its class with a water fording rating of 609 mm. The standard 17-inch wheels wear 245/65R17 Nexen all-terrain tires.

Looks and Cabin Details Unique to Trailhawk

The Trailhawk gets its own front fascia with a gloss black upper section, shaped to improve approach and departure angles. Red tow hooks sit at the front and rear, and an anti-glare Trailhawk graphic marks the hood.

Inside, Mantis Green upholstery carries red accent stitching and an embossed logo. The shift dial has a Black Spun Aluminum finish, and a Radical Red bezel surrounds it. That bezel also appears on some of the most capable trims in the Jeep lineup, including the Wrangler Rubicon.

What Matters for Shoppers Now

There is one trim, so the decisions are packages. Standard equipment already covers a lot of ground:

  • A 10.25-inch digital cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen
  • Power-adjustable heated front seats and a heated steering wheel
  • Memory seating and mirrors
  • A foot-activated power liftgate
  • LED headlamps and taillamps, plus fog lamps

Three option groups add more. The Sun and Sound Package brings a dual-pane sunroof and a Premium Alpine Audio System. The Advanced Pro Tech Group adds ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, front and rear camera washers and a 360-degree camera. The Trailering Package unlocks the 3,500 lbs (1,587 kg) towing figure.

That towing number suits a small camper, a utility trailer or a pair of ATVs on a trailer. Payload is 800 lbs (363 kg). The camera washers and 360-degree camera are the Pro Tech items that matter most on muddy or tight-trail days.

Passenger room is steady for five, with 1,050 mm of front legroom and 977 mm in the second row. Cargo space measures 835.1 L behind the rear seats and 1,760.7 L with the seats folded. The 51.9 L fuel tank rounds out the practical picture for longer trips.

The Trailhawk is built on the STLA-Large platform and assembled at Toluca Assembly Plant in Mexico. It stands on a 2,869 mm wheelbase and has a 12.2 m turning circle.

Availability and Next Steps

The 2027 Cherokee Trailhawk enters production later this year, and Canadian customers will be able to place orders later this year. If the Trailhawk fits how you drive, that is the time to start planning your build, including which of the three packages belong on it.

Is the 2027 Cherokee Trailhawk the Jeep for Your Nova Scotia Roads?

The 2027 Cherokee Trailhawk pairs a 210 hp hybrid system with a two-speed transfer unit, a locking rear axle, skid plates and a 22.98 cm ground clearance.
